‘A dog is for life, not just for Christmas… or lockdown!’

During the past 18 months of the pandemic, many individuals welcomed new additions of pets into their home. There was a huge surge in demand for puppies and dogs during lockdown, adding a distraction, hope and love to families who were struggling in uncertain times.

Christmas is also a busy time for pets being welcomed into homes as a lovely gift for families.

There is the worry from organisations such as the RSPCA that many families won’t take on the long-term commitment of keeping a dog and are bracing themselves for an abundance of dogs being taken to dog charities, shelters and even abandoned.

Operation Santa Paws is held from the 1st – 24th December every year. Operation Santa Paws was founded in 2001 by Justin Rudd and calls for animal lovers to donate funds, treats, toys, blankets and supplies to dog charities, shelters and rescue centres.

Initially founded in the USA, Operation Santa Paws has continued to grow and develop spreading across the world to countries including the United Kingdom.

As much as Christmas is the most special time of the year, it can be the hardest for these charities, so lend a paw and help support your local pet organisations:
